The science behind Persona

A practical and memorable thinking framework

Many personality insight systems have been developed over the years – going back as far as Hippocrates around 400 BC! Many of the most robust systems – including Hippocrates’ – are based on four sets of related characteristics, which influence how we think, communicate and behave.

At Persona we believe in keeping things practical and memorable. So our thinking framework is designed specifically for young people and built around four descriptive, positive and memorable styles. These are rooted in large scale empirical research by behavioural scientists, and developed with input from school inspectors, headteachers, pastoral leads and pupils.

Our Skillsets and Life Skills

A practical and memorable thinking framework

Personality and communication styles

The four styles are derived from observing two fundamental aspects of human behaviour: Assertiveness and Responsiveness. Combining these gives us a reliable insight into anyone’s unique mix of personality styles at that point in their life. We call this their Persona.

Your Persona is about 50% determined by your genes, and 50% by external factors such as school, friends and experiences. It is very likely to change as you navigate your life journey, especially when you are young. You can also learn to adapt your thinking, communication and behaviour in different situations, leading to improved life skills and wellbeing.

Helping young people to develop 22 life skills across six skillsets

Persona’s scaffolded, age appropriate curriculum helps students navigate their life journey, building over 20 skills that map to Ofsted, Independent Schools Inspectorate, IB Learner Profile, Skills Builder, VIA Character, Cambridge iGCSE, Gatsby and other benchmarks.
